Verify your identity

In a virtual work world, ensuring the authenticity of individuals is crucial for safety and security. At SAM, we regularly request freelancers and clients to verify their identities.

We will notify you via email and on your SAM account when it is time for you to earn the Identity Verified badge or re-verify your identity. We employ various methods of identity verification, including:

Government ID
Location verification for E.U.-only jobs
Government ID and location verification
Visual verification
Phone number verification

Depending on the situation, we may ask you to verify one or all of the above options. Once notified, you have seven days to complete the verification process before your account is put on hold.

In most cases, we can verify your identity within minutes after you submit the required information.

Before you begin

Ensure that you are ready to verify your identity by having the following items ready:

A valid government-issued ID
The country on your SAM profile should match the country on your ID
Make sure your SAM profile photo accurately represents your current appearance
Ensure that the names on your withdrawal method, tax information, and tax forms match the name on your ID. SAM will use the name on your identity documents as your verified name. If there is a name mismatch, please contact support
A phone with a working camera

Accepted government-issued IDs

The government-issued ID must include your picture, signature, name, date of birth, and address (except for passports, which do not require an address).

We accept the following documents as valid government-issued IDs: passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria.

For refugees and asylum seekers, we may accept UNHCR-issued documents, Asylum Seeker Temporary Visa, or Asylum Seeker Certificate.

We cannot accept the following:

Student IDs, employee IDs, library cards, handwritten IDs, temporary IDs, photocopied IDs, military IDs, and health cards

Tips for capturing an image

Take a photo of the ID from above, with the ID lying on a flat, dark surface
Do not cover any part of the ID or your face
Leave margins on all sides of the image
Do not use a flash

How to verify your identity

We will notify you when it is time to verify your identity. Make sure you have read the "Before you begin" section above and click on the link in your email or notification to start the process.

Follow the listed steps. You will need to scan a QR code to continue the process on your phone.

If the requested images are successfully captured and match your profile information, your identity will be verified instantly. Please allow up to three business days for the badge to appear on your profile.

In some cases, we may need to review the documents you submitted and request additional information, which may extend the verification process. If this happens, we will contact you via email.

Reasons for identity verification

To confirm account ownership (including compliance with the E.U. Governments)
To verify your location for location-specific jobs and comply with local taxes and regulations
To reactivate your account after a suspension
For other reasons deemed necessary to maintain the integrity of the marketplace

Unable to verify your identity

If you have received a notification stating that identity verification is required and you are unable to complete the process, you may not be able to continue working through SAM. This means you will not be able to submit new proposals or make withdrawals. Permanent suspension may result in the return of your funds to clients.

Uploading falsified documentation intentionally is a crime, and violators will be permanently suspended. SAM may report users who attempt to submit fake or falsified documents.

Acceptance of Terms

Contract Basis

Each time you engage a service provider via the app this will be a stand-alone and separate contract between you and the service provider. Each contract between you and a service provider will come into force once you have agreed the scope of the services to be provided by the service provider via the app. All terms associated with any such contract must be documented via the app.

Your Responsibilities

You shall ensure that the any information you provide when requesting the services of a service provider is complete and accurate. You shall co-operate with both us and the service provider in all matters relating to the services.

Payment for Services

The charges for the services shall be such charges as agreed between you and the service provider via the app. You will pay the charges to the service provider in the manner agreed between you and the service provider via the app.

Cancellation

You may cancel your booking at no cost so long as such booking is cancelled more than 24 hours prior to the time specified for the booking. If you cancel a booking within 24 hours prior to the agreed time of the booking then you will be liable for the full cost of the booking.

Changes to these Terms

We amend these terms from time to time. Every time you wish to use our app, please check these terms to ensure you understand the terms that apply at that time.

Changes to our App

We may update and change our app from time to time to reflect changes to our services, our users’ needs and our business priorities.

Account Security

If you choose, or you are provided with, a user identification code, password or any other piece of information as part of our registration and security procedures, you must treat such information as confidential. You must not disclose it to any third party.

Prohibited Uses

You may use our app only for lawful purposes. You may not use our app in any way that breaches any applicable local, national or international law or regulation, or in any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect.

Our Responsibility for Loss or Damage Suffered by You

We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Applicable Laws

These terms, their subject matter and their formation, are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which our company is located. We both agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction.
